FTC subpoenas: The FTC sent civil investigative demands to OpenAI and Anthropic on Wednesday over potential consumer protection violations, and an agency spokesperson confirmed the subpoenas, CBS News reported. The demands run more than 50 pages each and ask for documents concerning security incidents and safeguarding practices, plus marketing materials and company privacy policies, Axios reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. An OpenAI spokesperson told Axios the company “will engage constructively with the FTC.” FTC Chairman Andrew Ferguson has echoed the view that AI systems shouldn’t be released if they aren’t safe, according to Axios.
