Conductor, an app for running coding agents, joins Meta

Conductor says it is joining Meta; its cloud service goes read-only Nov. 13 and shuts down Nov. 20, while the local app runs until early 2027.

The news: Conductor, an app for writing code with teams of AI coding agents, said in an announcement on its website that it is joining Meta. “I have big news: Conductor is joining Meta,” reads the announcement on Conductor’s website, signed “Charlie.” Coding agents are AI tools that write and edit software on a developer’s behalf. Neither Conductor nor Meta disclosed terms, and the announcement does not include a statement from Meta.

What Conductor is: The company says it launched “in the distant past of July 2025,” when “writing most of your code with agents (let alone a team of coding agents) felt crazy.” The product has two parts: a local app that runs on a user’s Mac, and Conductor Cloud, a hosted service where users keep workspaces and chats with agents.

What changes, and when: Conductor posted a timeline. Starting Wednesday, Nov. 4: “New users can no longer sign up for Conductor or download the app.” Existing free users “can’t upgrade to a pro plan, but pro users can keep using pro features for free.”

On Friday, Nov. 13, “Conductor Cloud goes read-only.” The page explains: “You can still read old chats and export data, but you can’t send new messages. Active subscribers will get a refund.”

On Friday, Nov. 20, “Conductor Cloud shuts down.” The page says: “We begin deleting Conductor Cloud user data. Please export your data before this date.”

The local app is on a longer runway. “Local Conductor will continue to receive new models and critical bug fixes until early 2027,” the company says, and it “will start winding down in early 2027.”

Moving your data: Conductor says it has “built an easy way to transfer Conductor Cloud workspaces to local.” To move a workspace, users right-click it and choose “Transfer to local”; to download everything, they go to “Settings → Account → Export data.” On privacy, the company says: “We have never sold or trained on Conductor user data, and we still won’t. We’ll delete all Conductor user data when the app shuts down in early 2027.”

What comes next for the team: The announcement hints at a new product without describing it. “We have some big, crazy plans for the next interface,” it says. “We’ll have something new for you to use early next year.” Asked in the FAQ what the team will build, Conductor replies: “We can’t share much yet.” The page does not say whether the new product will carry Meta’s name or Conductor’s.

Our read: Conductor’s exit is a reminder that tools built on top of fast-moving AI models can disappear quickly when a large company comes calling. Users get a fairly clear plan: firm dates for the cloud shutdown, a built-in export path, refunds for active subscribers, and a local app that keeps getting fixes into early 2027. But the Nov. 20 date matters most, because that is when Conductor says it begins deleting cloud data, so anyone with work in Conductor Cloud has about two weeks to move it. For Meta, the deal adds a team that has been building an interface for managing multiple coding agents. What Meta plans to do with it is unknown; the only signal is Conductor’s promise of “something new” early next year, and the announcement carries no comment from Meta.

What’s next: Conductor Cloud goes read-only Nov. 13 and shuts down Nov. 20. Questions go to support@conductor.build, the company says. The local app continues until early 2027, when Conductor hopes to have its next product ready.
