OpenAI’s Codex starts suggesting next messages in Pro beta

Pro users press Tab to accept a suggestion, and accepting does not send it, OpenAI said in its release notes.

  1. OpenAI Help Center — ChatGPT release notes: Composer predictions in Codex (Oct. 9, 2026)
  2. OpenAI Help Center — Composer predictions in Codex

Codex predictions: Codex can now suggest your next message, OpenAI said Friday in its release notes. The beta is for personal ChatGPT Pro users 18 and older in the Codex desktop app’s local and SSH threads using GPT-6 Astra or GPT-6.1 Sol. After Codex replies, a suggestion may appear. Press Tab to accept it, then review or edit it before sending. Accepting doesn’t send it. Predictions are on by default. To turn them off, switch off Show predictions under Settings, General, Composer. Generating predictions doesn’t count toward Codex usage limits or use credits during the beta; sent messages still do. The feature isn’t in Chat, OpenAI’s help page says.
