Apple prices foldable iPhone Duo from $1,999 as an AI device
Apple pitches Apple Intelligence 2 and Siri AI as the phone’s personal-context hub.

Apple unveiled iPhone Duo, its first foldable iPhone, and priced it from $1,999 (U.S., 256GB and up). CEO John Ternus led the pitch. The product story is not the hinge — it is Apple Intelligence 2 and Siri AI sold as the personal-context hub on a dual-display phone.
What shipped: A20 Pro with a Dual 16-core Neural Engine that Apple says doubles on-device AI compute versus A19 Pro, plus more unified memory bandwidth for running models on-device. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are framed as core to the device: personal-context search across messages, email, and photos; onscreen awareness; a Siri app with privately synced conversation history via iCloud; and Siri Camera mode via Camera Control so Siri can see what the user sees. Privacy claim on the same page: on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute. Pre-orders Oct 16; availability Oct 23. Colors: star white, night sky.
What it cannot do alone: The foldable chassis (7.6-inch inner / 5.4-inch outer) is the form factor, not proof of AI quality. Siri AI is in beta with iOS 27 per Apple. Independent measures of personal-context accuracy and refusal behavior are not in the newsroom primary.
Who it is for: Buyers who will pay a $1,999 floor for a dual-screen iPhone pitched as an AI assistant surface with Apple’s privacy stack — not shoppers hunting the cheapest foldable.
Risk: Marketing an expensive phone as “intelligent personal hub” without third-party AI evals. Personal-context assistants that read across apps are a privacy and parental-control product as much as a convenience product; Apple’s on-device / Private Cloud Compute claims are the company’s, not an audit.
What’s next: Whether Siri AI exits beta with measurable capability; any App Store / parental-control fights tied to on-device personal context; real-world battery and thermal cost of max on-device AI on the dual-battery design.
