Anthropic merges Cowork into Claude, ships Docs and Slides

Docs and Slides are in beta, and Claude now decides what a task needs from any chat, the company says.

Anthropic is merging Claude Cowork and chat into one Claude, and shipping Claude Docs and Claude Slides (plus Design that works inside conversations). The blog frame: stop choosing which surface a task belongs in — Claude decides what the job needs from any chat, with existing context, skills, and connectors.

What shipped: Product unification, not a new model card. Docs and Slides let you co-write documents and draft presentations in-chat, edit directly, present from Claude, or download PowerPoint/PDF. Artifacts live at one shareable link. Default: Claude asks before taking an action; users can loosen check-ins. Standalone Claude Design keeps working as before.

Limits / who: Rolling out on Pro and Max first (web, desktop, mobile) over coming weeks — nothing to toggle on for those plans once it reaches them. Team and Free follow later. Enterprise admins choose when Docs/Slides/Design-in-chat turn on, with at least 30 days notice before org changes. All three creation features are beta on paid plans.

Who it is for: Paid Claude users who were bouncing between chat and Cowork for reports and decks. Not a Free-tier day-one ship.

What it replaces: Separate Cowork as the “big work” silo. Context that used to die at the chat/Cowork boundary is meant to carry.

Risk: Long-running agents that keep working after you close the laptop need clear action gates. Default ask-before-act is the safety product claim — treat it as Anthropic’s posture, not an audit. Enterprise delay is a control, not a feature drop for every seat today.

What’s next: Team/Free dates; Enterprise admin rollout mail; whether Docs/Slides exit beta with export fidelity complaints.
