Google opens Googlebook pre-orders from $899, ships Oct. 4
The Gemini laptops reach Canada, the U.K., Ireland, France, Germany and Australia on Oct. 5, Google says.

Google opened pre-orders for Googlebook, a new laptop category built on an Android stack with ChromeOS desktop foundations and Gemini baked into the desktop. Devices start at $899. U.S. shelves start October 4; Canada, U.K., Ireland, France, Germany, and Australia follow October 5. Buy: Google Store, Best Buy, select retailers.
What it is: Partner flagships from Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo — aluminum / magnesium / carbon fiber, touchscreens up to 2.8K OLED, haptic glass trackpads, Intel or Qualcomm CPUs plus NPUs claimed at over 45 TOPS, battery “up to 14 hours.” Exterior Glowbar for boot, charge, and Gemini cues.
Phone companion: Shared Android foundation — settings, passwords, Wi-Fi, and messages migrate on sign-in (Google: end-to-end encrypted). Continue On picks up phone tasks on the laptop; Files reaches phone storage; Cast My Apps streams phone apps into desktop windows.
On-device Gemini: Magic Pointer (wiggle cursor → Gemini on what’s on screen), Rambler (speech → structured notes next to Quick Insert), Create My Widget (plain-language custom widgets). Google says Gemini acts only when asked and can be switched off.
Apps / builders: Desktop Chrome + Play Store; Photoshop, Lightroom, CapCut; streaming with offline; games plus a year of GeForce NOW. Developers get Antigravity (AI agent platform), terminal, and a Level 5 security-certified pKVM Linux environment. Security pitch: ChromeOS-class stack, Titan root of trust, on-device malware detection.
Bundle: Every unit includes 12 months Google AI Pro (5TB + Gemini Advanced tools) plus short trials (YouTube Premium, Photoshop, more). OS feature drops “for up to 10 years.”
Who for / replaces: Android phone users who want a laptop that treats the phone as a peer — not a Chromebook rebadge sales pitch, but not a MacBook either. Replaces “phone + Windows laptop that barely syncs” for that cohort.
Risks: Partner hardware variance at the same $899 floor; Gemini features depend on Google’s cloud/on-device split (post stresses on-device NPU but Advanced tools ride the AI Pro bundle). Retail availability outside listed countries not in this post. Specs, battery, NPU “over 45 TOPS,” and bundle claims are company claims from the launch post — not independent lab tests.
